Manchester United land Michael Owen

From Sky Sports
From The Sun

Alot of Manchester United fans think back to when Michael Owen played for Liverpool and wonder why we would waste our time on a scouser like that. I had that reaction at first, but after seeing that Michael Owen is receiving a reasonable basic salary that is incentive driven, I must ask myself: "What does this really cost United?"

Not much. A chance to have a European Footballer of the Year on the squad, if even only for a back-up to Berbatov and Rooney. It's only a 2 year deal, so United can get out from under it soon enough if it goes sour. And it still gives United the full resources of the 100 million pounds Sir Alex has in the coffers.

Ahh, who to spend the money on? Targets Karim Benzema and Franck Ribery want to join Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid. Antonio Valencia cost Sir Alex about 18 million pounds, and had been a target for a couple of years.

The coming days, months, and weeks are going to have plenty of twists and turns. In less than 3 weeks United begin their Asia tour and the starting 11 isn't chiseled into stone. However, a few key pieces are already moving into position as United prepare to win their 4th straight Premier League Crown.
