Oddly enough, this is a pretty decent piece about Mark Levin, whose book has been on the NY Times bestseller for 12 of 13 weeks.

4th of July

Unfortunately for my girlfriend and I, we're both sick. I don't know if we'll go see fireworks or not tonight...depends on how we feel. At any rate, if anyone happens to read this, take a moment today and remember the reason for the holiday. To celebrate our nations independence and sovereignty. Take a moment to look at the founding documents and remember why we chose to revolt against the British. Enjoy your time with your family this weekend.

Real Madrid's Summer Spending Spree

It's been well documented the amount of money Real Madrid have paid out during this summer's transfer period for Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo...how much have they spent overall? This isn't an official list, but it's probably fairly accurate:

Player Transfer Fee Former Club
Kaka $90.9M Internazionale
Cristiano Ronaldo $131.5M Manchester United
Karim Benzema $48.9M Lyon
Raul Albiol $21M Valencia

That's $292.3 million if you need help with the math. That doesn't include Rafael van der Vaart or Klaas-Jan Huntelaar for a combined $46 million who came to Madrid last summer and winter. Nor does it include Franck Ribery's asking price as he has requsted a transfer from Bayern Munich.

That's alot of spending at one club, even for a giant like Real Madrid. Perhaps they haven't been paying attention to other giants like Liverpool and Manchester United who are both struggling to make loan repayments for the players that they've bought over the years. Or maybe they've been spending too much time fantasizing about having the resources that Manchester City now has.

One thing is for certain though...there's going to be a Who's Who listing of big time footballers on the pitch at the Bernabéu this season and watching their football could truely be a beautiful thing as long as it all gels together.

Manchester United land Michael Owen

From Sky Sports
From The Sun

Alot of Manchester United fans think back to when Michael Owen played for Liverpool and wonder why we would waste our time on a scouser like that. I had that reaction at first, but after seeing that Michael Owen is receiving a reasonable basic salary that is incentive driven, I must ask myself: "What does this really cost United?"

Not much. A chance to have a European Footballer of the Year on the squad, if even only for a back-up to Berbatov and Rooney. It's only a 2 year deal, so United can get out from under it soon enough if it goes sour. And it still gives United the full resources of the 100 million pounds Sir Alex has in the coffers.

Ahh, who to spend the money on? Targets Karim Benzema and Franck Ribery want to join Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid. Antonio Valencia cost Sir Alex about 18 million pounds, and had been a target for a couple of years.

The coming days, months, and weeks are going to have plenty of twists and turns. In less than 3 weeks United begin their Asia tour and the starting 11 isn't chiseled into stone. However, a few key pieces are already moving into position as United prepare to win their 4th straight Premier League Crown.

Nothing original here...

The internet is filled with blogs about nothing. I suppose this could be considered another of those. It's June 30, and fall sports are right around the corner, as well as the MLB All-Star game...so I figured there's going to be plenty of times I have something to say, and want a place to say it.

I'll tell you where I do hangout though...Rock M Nation is where you'll find me during Mizzou football games and their sister blogs at SB Nation. Hockey and the occasional soccer posts can be found at IntoTheBoards.net. I also talk politics on their Fair & Balanced forum.

I don't expect anyone to really read this much, but more or less as a place to put some thoughts so I can link to it later. But, feel free to comment!
